Green Schools

At Coláiste Chiaráin, we are committed to fostering environmental awareness and action as an integral part of our school's life and ethos. Our Green Schools Committee, comprising members from every year group, plays an important role in leading initiatives to promote sustainability and conservation efforts within our school community.

Our Mission:

Our primary goal is to embed environmental consciousness into school life. We believe that by actively engaging students, teachers, non-teaching staff, parents, local authorities, media, and businesses, we can collectively make a positive impact on our environment.

Our Green Code:

"In our school, recycling is cool. We pick litter to make the place better. We encourage conversations and competitions. Water awareness and walk-to-school missions. All in the name of our Green Schools ambition."

What We Do:

  • Education and Awareness: We organise workshops, presentations, and educational campaigns to raise awareness about environmental issues and sustainable practices among students, staff, and the wider community.
  • Action Projects: Our committee initiates and leads various action projects focused on waste reduction, energy conservation, water usage awareness, and promoting eco-friendly behaviours.
  • Litter Clean-up Drives: We regularly organise litter clean-up drives within the school premises and surrounding areas to promote cleanliness and instil a sense of responsibility for the environment.
  • Conversations and Competitions: We promote discussions and competitions related to environmental topics to encourage creative thinking and active participation among students and staff.
  • Water Awareness and Walk-to-School Campaigns: We promote water conservation initiatives and advocate for alternative transportation methods such as walking or cycling to school to reduce carbon emissions.
  • Community Engagement: We collaborate with local authorities, media outlets, and businesses to gather support and resources for our sustainability initiatives, encouraging a sense of collective responsibility towards the environment.

Get Involved:

We welcome all members of our school community to join us in our mission to create a greener, more sustainable future. Whether you're a student, teacher, parent, or member of the local community, there are numerous opportunities to contribute and make a difference.
